Firebird32-UTB (
USB to TTL Breakout )
A versatile FT232RL based USB to TTL breakout board
for Firebird32 products.
Besides the 5x2 male
header for connecting to a Firebird32 board, user
can also solder in a 6x1 male or female header for connecting to
an Arduino
board. Use these BLK
and GRN pins to align UTB with your
Arduino board.
Because new PCs
offer USB ports only, this type of breakout board
is an almost must-have accessory if you work with
microcontroller applications regardless of which
microcontroller you prefer. If you don't have
it now, sooner or later you will need one.
Features:
-
Low cost
- On-board jumper to power a target board
When the jumper is on the J3, the UTB provides 5V or 3.3V to a
target board.
Remove the jumper from the J3, the UTB disconnects 5V or 3.3V to
a target board.
- On-board jumper to select 5V or 3.3V for target boards.
When the jumper is on the upper 2-pins of the J4, the board operates
at 5V, 500mA
When the jumper is on the lower 2-pins of the J4, the board
operates at 3.3V, 100mA
- 5V or 3.3V voltage level LED indicators, red indicates
5V and yellow indicates 3.3V
A Wytec's exclusive design feature and has been implemented on
our Roadrunner12 since 2009.
- TX and RX LEDs for monitoring
FT2323RL
transmission status.
- DTR pin to auto-reset Arduino
boards
- PC board size:
1.46" X 0.85"
Warning: All male headers are not included.

Firebird32-UTB installed with all male headers.
When it's plugged onto a solderless breadboard 8 signals, RX, TX, RTS, CTS, DTR, DCD, DSR and RI, are
available to user applications. |

How to connect it to the Firebird32-Mini or other
Arduino boards with a 6 pin male header?
The easiest way is to make a
7x2 ribbon cable, but only utilize it as a 6x1 ribbon
cable to connect to a UTB module. If the
connections are correct, the green LED on the Mini
should be on.

How to connect it to the Firebird32?
Make a 5x2 ribbon cable to
connect the J5 of UTB to the J4 of the Firebird32. |

|
|
The Firebird32 has 2 SCI
ports.
This is how to connect the UTB to SCI1. |
 |
|
Move the 5x2 IDC connector
0.1" to the right, the UTB is connected to SCI2. |
